Introducing "Time Sweeps"

Rowan University's newest public art takes shape stone-by-stone, from the beginning of time and from around the world

At the east end of the Glassboro campus, a massive sculpture took shape this spring, millions of years after each of its thousands of elements formed in and around the earth. Artist and stonemason Thea Alvin designed the stone installation with winding walls as both artwork and outdoor classroom. She and and her team, plus art and geology students, assembled the massive artwork mostly by hand, stone by stone. The rock came from as near as Pennsylvania's Wissahickon and as far as Oregon and Taiwan. The result is both creative gem and construction feat.
