For the Profs who flocked to Glassboro all week, it's celebrating Homecoming traditions. Thousands of students, alumni, friends and family visited to reconnect with the campus and community and to showcase their #ProfPride during the days-long celebration.
October 13 through 17 lined up a full schedule designed to keep #ProfPride building from generation to generation. Among the activities: the annual spirit competition where 30+ teams of students competed in various contests to earn points toward the coveted spirit competition.
During the team contests, Men's Ultimate Frisbee won the annual push cart competition and Alpha Psi Omega earned first place in the lip sync. Rowan Badminton won the CANstruction competition and the Sailing Sabors floated to the top in the crowd-favorite battleship tournament. Rowan Bowling placed first overall, followed by Men's Ultimate Frisbee and Martinson Honors College.
The Center for Belonging & Student Engagement and the Office of Alumni Engagement hosted a homecoming social, bringing together LGBTQIA+ students, faculty, staff, alumni and allies for an evening of building community.
A special reunion breakfast honored the community legacy of Rowan's Residential Learning & University Housing team.
Henry M. Rowan College of Engineering started its Homecoming celebration by honoring its third class of Circle of Distinction inductees.
Alumni, faculty, staff and administrators celebrated the creation of the Ric Edelman College of Communication, Humanities & Social Sciences.
Hours before kickoff, volunteers assembled tables, tents and speakers and fired up grills for pre-game festivities with family, friends and fans.
The Pride of the Profs Marching Band paraded through the University Showcase and tailgate for a pre-game performance with special guests Elite Diamondz, Rowan's majorette dance crew. Visitors stopped in their tracks to answers the band's "who let the Profs out?" call.
Guests found games and giveaways at every turn, thanks to enthusiastic representatives of departments and organizations from all of Rowan's campuses, colleges and schools.
"Playing football is my greatest college memory," said Rodney Taylor '68, a defensive lineman from Glassboro State College days. "The homecoming game is my favorite tradition. We come back every year," he added, gesturing to his wife and son (below). Just about every branch of their family tree is filled with alumni, including Taylor's mother, his siblings, his children and now his granddaughter, who just started her first year.
Homecoming week put more "W's" in the record book for the Profs with Women's Volleyball, Field Hockey and Men's Soccer coming out on top for all their matches.
In Saturday's football game against William Patterson, the Profs scored a 45-16 win, but not before first-year Mordecai Ford made program history. Ford's 94-yard rush in the fourth quarter became the longest rushing touchdown in Rowan football history.
With the Profs up 19-0 at the end of the second quarter, all eyes were on midfield at Coach Richard Wackar Stadium for halftime performances from Rowan Cheerleading and Dance Team. The Pride of the Profs treated the packed stands to a "villain era" medley, including the crescendo from Wicked's "Defying Gravity"
Following the spirit competition awards, two lucky students got the chance to punt for a free car and earned $100 Rowan Bucks for their efforts. Then, the crowd acknowledged Tony Cattani '98, M'02, 2025 National High School Principal of the Year.
Homecoming celebrations concluded on Sunday with the Paul A. Hilton '83 Fellowship Breakfast, hosted by the Rowan University Black Alumni Network (RUBAN). The annual event recognizes the power of unity among friends and celebrates the collective and individual contributions made to the Rowan community.
